Kids Helping Kids Leadership Academy, Inc. is a unique organization that evolved from a 10 year-old's simple idea and big heart to raise $240 in order to keep one Ghanaian child out of trafficking into a fundraising and leadership movement for global transformation.

In February of 2007, ten year-old Tyler Page got inspired while watching an episode of Oprah where he learned that children, just like himself, were being sold by their own parents into labor. Picturing himself in their shoes is all it took for him to leap into action.

"Pay it forward" is the belief that each of us has the power to better someone’s life simply by doing small favors, often anonymously.

The Pay It Forward movement is about all people, from all walks of life giving to someone else and making a positive difference. At last count there were more than 28 countries around the world participating.

We encourage you to embrace the incredible power of giving. To show each other that we care and that there is love, hope and magic all around us. To know that we may be only one person in this world, but to one person, at one time, we are the world. Make a difference and experience the true power of giving. Thank you for your support. Together we can change the world – one good deed at a time!

We can change people's attitudes about the world through our acts of kindness.

Many of you may have seen the movie ‘Pay It Forward’ or have read the novel of the same name, by Catherine Ryan Hyde, a story about a young boy who did three good deeds for others in need. In return, all that the child wanted was that they pass on the good deed to three other people and keep the cycle going. One good deed might not seem like much, but if everyone did something good for someone else, then the cycle of generosity and kindness can spark us to become better people.

So how does it work? Do between one and three good deeds for others without asking for anything in return. Instead the recipient should be instructed to pay it forward to someone else in need.

Take the Steps

  1. Be attentive wherever you are for opportunities to help someone.
Perhaps you have an elderly or disabled neighbor who is too proud to ask for help with their yard work or maybe you're in a restaurant and see someone who looks like they could use some kind stranger to pay for their meal.
  2. Do something nice for someone you don't know
    (or don't know very well).

It should be something significant, and not for a person from whom you expect a good deed -- or anything at all, for that matter -- in return
  3. Spread the word.
If the person thanks you and wants to "repay" you (that is, pay it "back"), let them know that what you'd really like is for them to pay it "forward" -- you'd like them to do something nice for three people they don't know, and ask those three people to do something nice for three more people. The idea is to consciously increase the goodness of the world.
  4. Pay it forward.
When you notice that somebody has done something nice for you, make a note in your mind to practice three acts of kindness towards other people, as described in Step 2.

Want To Join the KHK PIF Movement?

Send us an email with your name and address to payitforward@kidzhelpingkids.org and we'll send you a PIF bracelet. The bracelet acts as a reminder to help someone, a stranger or someone you hardly know in a way that will leave a lasting impression. When you receive a "thank you" simply remove the bracelet and ask that person to "Pay It Forward". Encourage them to wear the bracelet and do the same for someone else.

Share Your Story

We want to hear your PIF story! The power is in sharing your experiences, whether you are the giver or receiver that will inspire others and us! Tell us how you are keeping the random acts of kindness moving forward. Share
